Capgemini's new study shows the evolution of the automotive industry

Post by nusratjahan »

A new study from the Capgemini Research Institute found that the number of consumers who prefer using self-driving cars will double within the next five years. In fact, only 25% of consumers say they would prefer to drive a self-driving vehicle over a traditional one in the next 12 months, while over half of those surveyed say driverless cars will be their preferred mode of transportation by 2024.

These findings, released today, are part of the Capgemini Research Institute report , “The Autonomous Car: A Consumer Perspective .” The positive sentiment of surveyed consumers suggests they understand the enormous benefits of autonomous vehicles in terms of fuel savings (73%), reduced shop emissions (71%), and time savings (50%). Furthermore, there is a strong sense of optimism and high expectations, with more than half of consumers (56%) saying they would be willing to pay up to 20% more for a self-driving vehicle than for a traditional one.

The findings also point to a changing perception of mobility, as consumers believe self-driving cars will play an increasingly important role in their daily lives, offering benefits beyond the simple act of driving, including greater autonomy in running errands and completing various tasks. Nearly half of respondents said they would be comfortable with a self-driving car running errands for them; more than half would happily let a self-driving vehicle drop off or pick up friends and family who don't drive, while one in two respondents expect this type of car to save them time so they can focus on other activities—such as socializing, entertainment, working, or simply enjoying the ride.
